Andrew Darian, Ph.D.

From the boardroom to the classroom, my journey has been guided by a passion for leadership, education, and the transformative power of learning. I began my career in Chicago, running a successful corporation of more than thirty employees, but soon discovered that my true calling was in education.

Pursuing this passion, I earned a Waldorf grades certificate as a full-time student at Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, CA, studying with esteemed Waldorf educators including René Querido, Astrid Schmitt-Stegmann, Dennis Klocek, Betty Staley, and Brian Gray. I later cofounded the Waldorf School of Louisville with my spouse, Shea. There, I served as Board President, Faculty Chair, lead Kindergarten teacher, and teacher trainer—laying the foundation for the school grow into a thriving K–8 institution.

Believing that all children deserve access to inspired and holistic learning, I went on to earn my B.S. in Education, B.A. in History, M.A. in Curriculum Studies, and Ph.D. in Education, where my research focused on movement-based learning in Waldorf classrooms with the intention of bringing Waldorf methods into public education. For over three decades, I have taught students from early childhood through high school in daycare, public, and Waldorf schools. I have taught, supervised, and mentored future educators in the Maricopa County Community College District, Arizona State University, and as a professor at Lebanon Valley College. I also worked as a teaching consultant for Waldorf schools, supporting teachers and schools to deepen their practice and strengthen classroom instruction.

Building on these experiences, I have served as a school administrator at three Waldorf schools, supporting and guiding teachers from preschool through high school. Today, in my role at Desert Marigold School, I have the privilege of fostering a vibrant faculty, guiding curriculum development, and nurturing a school culture where both students and teachers thrive. This work continues to be the most rewarding expression of my lifelong dedication to education.
