Handwork Teacher

Position Summary

Desert Marigold, a public charter school in Arizona, is seeking a qualified Handwork Teacher to provide

standards-aligned instruction in fiber arts and practical skills for students in Grades 1–12. The teacher will

deliver developmentally appropriate instruction consistent with the school’s educational model, while meeting

all applicable state requirements for public charter school educators.

Instruction includes handwork disciplines such as knitting, crocheting, sewing (hand and machine), embroidery,

and weaving, with an emphasis on skill development, creativity, and student engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver instructional lessons aligned with Arizona academic standards, where applicable, and

the school’s curriculum framework

• Provide sequential instruction in fiber arts, including knitting, crocheting, sewing, and weaving

• Maintain a structured, safe, and effective classroom environment in accordance with school policies

• Supervise students and ensure appropriate use of materials and tools

• Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and performance

• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress

• Collaborate with faculty and administration to support student achievement and school initiatives

• Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, and school events

• Maintain inventory and ensure appropriate use of school-provided materials and supplies

• Comply with all school, state, and federal policies, including student safety and reporting requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Arizona Charter School Requirements)

• High school diploma or equivalent (required under Arizona charter school law)

• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in handwork/fiber arts (e.g., knitting, sewing, crocheting,

weaving)

• Ability to pass a fingerprint clearance background check through the Arizona Department of Public

Safety

• Authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree

• Valid Arizona teaching certificate

• Experience teaching in a classroom or structured educational setting

• Familiarity with Waldorf-inspired or arts-integrated education models

• Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a safe, orderly learning environment

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners

• Skill in maintaining accurate records and meeting deadlines

• Collaborative approach to working with colleagues and families

Base Salary

$40,000 plus experience and credentials
